Your Best Hair: How to Prevent Frizz

Your Best Hair with Bridget Brager - How to Prevent Frizz - Bridget holding Rodan + Fields Defrizz+ Oil Treatment and Define+ Curl Cream

Hi everyone, Bridget Brager here. And today I wanted to talk to you about a topic I hear a lot about during the summer months. Especially from clients who live in or are going to visit a more humid climate during the summer. Can you guess what it is? Frizz, yup it is frizz. Okay so let’s talk about frizz. Frizz happens when the level of humidity in the air is greater than the level of water in your hair. Yes, even when your hair is dry it is still holding onto some small amount of moisture. Because the hair is porous, the moisture and humidity in the air penetrates your hair, preventing your cuticles, or the outer most layer of your hair, from lying flat. Thus, giving you a frizzy, puffy look. The goal is flat cuticles, the goal is moisture and hydration.

Okay so what are my recommendations to help prevent frizz in a more humid climate? First off, switch to a haircare regimen that focuses on repairing damage and smoothing hair, like the Rodan + Fields Smooth+ Regimen. Which actually gets to the root of dull, dry, frizzy hair as it re-energizes and nourishes the scalp. You guys, this 3 step Regimen smooths and repairs dry, damaged strands while supporting long term hair health for softer, shinier, frizz- free hair instantly and over time.

Probably the most important thing to remember in the battle against frizz is that moisture is key to smoothing frizz. Because of this, the key product in the Regimen is the Defrizz+ Oil Treatment. I cannot live without it honestly, which is why I have talked so much about it before, but it is such a versatile product. You want to layer it into your damp hair or your dry hair to help lay those cuticles down flat, right? It adds such a beautiful, healthy-looking shine, it restores softness, and it smooths and locks in hydration for less frizz.

Another incredible product is the Define+ Curl Cream. This hydrates, defrizzes, and adds shine without weighing your hair down for softer, healthy-looking definition. I love it because it’s got this flexible hold, it’s like a lightweight styling cream that really helps hair stay bouncy while protecting strands from heat and frizz. Always prep your hair with a heat protectant, yes! Fried, damaged hair is way more prone to frizz and flyaways than healthy, nourished hair. So, if you know you’re going to be using a hot tool, make sure you’ve got a solid heat protectant on hand and again this is why I love the Defrizz+ Oil Treatment. It is one of my go-tos because it provides up to 450 degrees Fahrenheit of protection. That’s right, no fried hair, not on our watch.

You’ve heard me talk a lot about this before, but I always suggest drying your hair with a microfiber towel. You know that your hair is the most vulnerable when it is wet. That means using the wrong towel can literally make or break your hair, right? This is why your fabric choice is so important. Cotton towels create friction with your hair. This leads to frizz and breakage. Okay so one of the easiest ways to prevent damage and breakage that can lead to flyaways you ask? Is to make sure you trim your hair at least once every 3 months because split ends are especially prone to dryness. Also known as frizzy hair’s worst nightmare. It can lead to breakage and make strands much shorter than others, so they stick out, not cute. So, schedule your regular appointments with your hair stylist to avoid any long-term damage and get those ends taken care of. See you next time guys.
